How to Pull the Wool Over Someone’s Eyes

By Philip Venzke

First, find a sheep.
Spin an uneven yarn.

Second, develop fingerspitzengefühl.
Hold a map of their mind in your mind.

Third, pick category 5 or 6 wool.
It creates quick projects on big needles.

When finished with the gentle knit,
be careful not to touch their eyelashes.

The wool must not be felt.

Philip Venzke grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin.  His most recent poems have appeared in Harbinger AsylumSurvision MagazineDoor Is A JarOne Sentence Poems, and Shift: A Journal of Literary Oddities.  A prize-winning chapbook of his poetry will be published in 2022 by Survision Books in Ireland.
