Guidelines
Stoneboat is reading for the Fall 2012 issue From March 15-July 15, 2012.
We are now using Submittable, formerly known as Submishmash, to manage online submissions. To submit electronically, click here to log in to your account or create an account -- it's quick and painless, we promise. We will also continue to accept hard copy submissions. (Mail to Signe Jorgenson, c/o General Studies Division, Lakeland College, PO Box 359, Sheboygan, WI 53082-0359 and include an SASE.)
When submitting, please include:
The editorial staff will not make final decisions about which pieces to accept until after the reading period closes (July 15), so response time can be several months. Our process is to look at all of the submissions as a whole and give each piece the full consideration it deserves. We thank you in advance for your patience.
Please submit only once per reading period. In addition, we are unlikely to publish a writer or artist in two consecutive issues because we want to provide our readers with as much variety as possible.
Regarding simultaneous submissions:
We do accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as possible if your work has been accepted elsewhere. We have had some trouble in the past when authors had failed to withdraw their work and we had planned to include it in our upcoming issue. We know wait times can be long, and we don't want to keep you from placing your work -- we just need to know the status of your submission. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please use Submittable/Submishmash to withdraw it, or send an email to stoneboat.journal@gmail.com.
Publication:
If your work is selected for the print edition, you will receive two contributor copies and may buy additional copies at a reduced rate. We also accept a few pieces that we publish exclusively on our website as a supplement to the print edition. All contributors, both print and online, will be invited to read their work at an issue release reading in Sheboygan, Wisconsin some time in late October or early November. We know that most of our contributors are unable to be physically present in Sheboygan to read, but in the past a number of contributors have read via Skype. The issue release reading is one of the things that makes Stoneboat unique, and we've heard only positive things from those who have participated, both "live" and via Skype.
All are welcome to submit. We look forward to receiving your best poems, stories, essay, and art. Thank you for your interest in Stoneboat! To submit your work, click here.
