About Stoneboat

Editoral Staff: Jim, Lisa, Rob, & Signe
When Stoneboat founder Rob Pockat first considered creating a publishing venue for local writers, he envisioned compiling an anthology of work written by his classmates at Lakeland College. Within weeks, the project had evolved into Stoneboat, a biannual literary journal that publishes both emerging and established writers and features poetry, prose, and black and white artwork.
Although Stoneboat is not affiliated with Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Stoneboat does have a close relationship to the college. Editor-in-Chief Rob Pockat is a Lakeland alumnus, and the associate editors have Lakeland ties as well: Jim Giese is an alum, Signe Jorgenson is a professor, and Lisa Vihos is the college's director of alumni relations. In addition, many (but by no means all) of the writers who were published in the first issue have a Lakeland connection, whether they are professors, alumni, or writers who have been featured at Lakeland's annual Great Lakes Writers Festival.
That said, the editors are interested in publishing the best work they can get their hands on, so all are encouraged to submit their work regardless of whether or not they have ties to Lakeland College or the Sheboygan area. Associate Editor Lisa Vihos says, "I love the fact that we are producing a publication opportunity for the Lakeland community—alumni, students, faculty, staff—as well as for a broader community of writers, no matter where they live or what their previous publication history might be."
Exactly. Please submit. We are eager to read your best work.
